Review: thinkThin Creamy Peanut Butter High Protein Bar

Oooh goodie, more peanut butter! Actually I was a little apprehensive about trying this thinkThin Creamy Peanut Butter protein bar, because so far they’re 50-50. The last one I tried (Brownie Crunch) was pretty terrible, but the first one (Chunky Peanut Butter) was highly satisfying. And then there's the run of pretty disappointing granola bars in the past few reviews.

A promising description, but as we’ve seen that doesn’t always yield a good bar:
“Made with creamy peanut butter and cocoa, this delicious high protein bar is covered in delicious milk chocolate to satisfy any craving. With 20 grams of protein and zero grams of sugar, this tasty bar is entirely gluten free.”
Here goes nothing...

Well, I shouldn’t have worried so much. Right off the bat it smelled like a Reese’s cup, that’s 10 points for smell alone! I knew better than to expect it to taste that amazing, but it did make my mouth water....

So far this thing is doing a really good job of impersonating a Reese’s. The only difference is, you can’t break a Reese’s in half and have it bend before breaking. But look at that filling...looks just like the inside of a peanut butter cup.

Well obviously, it wasn’t quite the same, but this one was by far the most peanut buttery of the protein bars I’ve tried up to now. It’s basically the same as the chunky version, although without the chunks and, for some reason, more peanut buttery. Maybe those chunks were getting in the way or something? The only complaint I have is a weird aftertaste. I’m not sure how to describe it; bitter, maybe? Or for lack of more descriptive term, proteiny? Fortunately it’s not hard to get rid of.

As for the texture--perfect! It was like a soft-baked cookie, easy to chew and sort of crumbly. It would be easy to wolf this bar down very quickly. Not that I did that, of course.

So, call this one a success for thinkThin. That brings their score up to 2 out of 3. I may have to revisit the chunky version and compare the flavors again.

Taste: 9--The most peanut-buttery protein bar so far, but with a weird aftertaste.
Texture: 10--Cookie-ish, soft, perfect!
Health: 9--Gluten and sugar free, but watch for sugar alcohols. GoodGuide gives this bar a 10 for health.
Eat Again? Finally, one I can say yes to!
